In this series, which may have been half of a calendar book, men may be observed having sexual relations with a wide variety of partners. Although brothel scenes were popular, shunga often depicted ordinary people—elderly couples, servants, married couples and homosexuals—in a range of quotidian situations. Liaisons with animals were also not uncommon.
