Born in Kentucky, Edward Melcarth was a New York City painter and sculptor who was a Social Realist, painting mural-sized canvases of factories and workmen with the Renaissance technique of egg tempera. He also took candid shots of young men around Coney Island on the beach or posed casually in couples. These unpublished photos remain in Melcarth’s archive.
