Lon Hanagan began his career as a physique photographer in 1939. His images appeared in many physique magazines, including Adonis, Body Beautiful, Muscle Power, Strength & Health, Tomorrow's Man, and Your Physique. According to Reed Massengill, Alfred Kinsey met with Lon several times while the sex researcher was visiting New York to conduct interviews for his study on human sexual behavior.
